How Corporate Recruiters Use Twitter?

By Steve Sinclair

After LinkedIn, a social networking site that targets only professionals, twitter is the most used website in the recruiting world. However, most employees and employers are not very sure about the effectiveness of twitter as a powerful recruiting tool. But many corporate houses agree that Twitter is an unavoidable medium in their recruitment process. There are a lot of reasons which makes Twitter an attractive tool for both recruiters and job seekers.

Some of the key advantages of Twitter are:

– Wider Reach – It doesn’t matter where the employer or the employee is located but both are connected each other through internet. When a company post some updates in their websites, thousands of people are watching it and the same thing happens when an employee is searching for a job. The communication is also faster when it comes to twitter.

– Inexpensive – Corporate recruiters use Twitter and social recruiting tools due to the cost factor as well. They barely need to spend any money for promoting their business or job listings. Due to this, many corporate recruiters post their advertisement in Twitter even if they are not very positive about the results.

Twitter’s large network that consists of millions of users and their rapid growth makes it a powerful networking tool. Many corporate recruiters use Twitter to lag behind anyone in terms of communication. However, very less recruiters completely rely on Twitter to find employees and recruit them. One can say that Twitter helps a corporate recruiter in finding the right person for their job.

How Corporate Houses Use Twitter for Verification Purposes?

This reveals a very interesting aspect of Twitter as an investigation tool which attracted several corporate recruiters. According to few surveys among recruiters who use Twitter as a part of their recruitment process, they found that around 30-40% job aspirants lost their jobs due to their tweets about alcohol and drugs. If an employer finds that the candidate uses obscene language or has any bad habits, they choose not to recruit that person.

This shows why it is important for job seekers to keep their Twitter and Facebook account clean and the growth of both social media as a serious communication tool like telephones or emails. An employee can’t simply reveal his ‘wild side’ in Twitter but keep it clean and neat. If you are not convinced yet, you should know that 40% of the candidates were shortlisted only because they had a promising personal profile. A corporate recruitment firm uses Twitter to analyze the employee’s communication skills and his work culture.

The vital point here is that social recruitment media is very similar to a public place or organizations where you have to behave in the same manner as you do in your workplace. It is not that you can’t have fun on Twitter but you should realize that many corporate houses use Twitter to gather as much information about you. However, staying away from social media websites is not a good idea these days because several people consider it as a lack of technical knowledge.
