Headspace in Your Workplace

by Ruaidhri Horan, Marketing Manager, Abrivia Recruitment

Working in a stressful environment where the phone is constantly ringing and a decision has to be made every few minutes can easily become overpowering and lead to wrong decisions being made, even by the most experienced of executives. Taking time out, for even ten minutes every day to reflect and even meditate can have a dramatic effect on the quality of your decision making process. But how can you create the environment for headspace in a busy working environment.

1. Use an Empty Room

The boardroom or meeting room in your office may be vacant. You will need a room which is quiet and where there are no distractions (leave you mobile in your office desk) and this will give you the headspace required to fully focus on important decisions.

2. Go Off Site

If you are part of a really important decision making process go to your local tranquil coffee shop or hotel foyer for meetings, whichever is more appropriate. The change of environment will not only ensure more creative thinking but will get you away from office distractions, allowing you to give total focus to the decisions at hand. If you are using a consultant, if possible, use their office for meetings in order to achieve the headspace required to make important decisions.

3. Get fresh Air or take a short Walk

A blast of clean fresh air, which we are fortunate enough to have plenty of in Ireland is always a good aid to the decision making process. A short walk in a tranquil environment can work wonders in getting the juices flowing and allow you the headspace required to take stock and get all your facts in perspective.

Getting headspace in your workplace will not only increase your productivity but will also lead to better decisions being made, which will benefit the whole company.
