Purple House Cancer Support has launched a groundbreaking online training course to help workplaces better support employees affected by cancer.
The initiative, unveiled this week, is part of the Cancer Care at Work programme and is designed to equip HR professionals, managers, and colleagues with the skills to navigate sensitive workplace situations with empathy and professionalism.
Developed in partnership with Stone Executive Consulting, the training combines pre-recorded videos, practical resources, and tailored sessions to ensure businesses of all sizes can respond compassionately while meeting their legal obligations.
The course offers two distinct pathways: one for HR leaders and managers, focusing on how to handle conversations around diagnosis, treatment, and workplace adjustments; and another for colleagues, aimed at fostering a supportive environment for co-workers during treatment and recovery. By addressing both leadership and peer support, Purple House ensures that the entire workplace ecosystem is prepared to respond thoughtfully and inclusively.
The training emphasises that cancer care is not only a medical issue but also a workplace wellbeing challenge—requiring compassion, clarity, and cultural support.
Purple House CEO Veronica O’Leary highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that it will help normalise conversations about cancer at work and empower employees to feel supported during one of life’s most difficult journeys.
This new training marks a significant step in bridging the gap between healthcare and workplace wellbeing, ensuring that compassion and professionalism go hand in hand.
