12% Decrease in Professional Job Vacancies in July

According to the latest Morgan McKinley monthly employment monitor there were 12pc fewer professional job vacancies in Ireland during July compared to the same period in 2016. The figure is down 24pc since June. Month-on-month.

The July figures follow a generally buoyant six month period to June 2017. The significant reduction in professional job vacancies in July, which is also likely to carry through the current month of August, is considered seasonal in nature following a sustained period of intensive hiring in the professional services recruitment market in recent months.

“There are currently fewer professional jobs coming onto the market. However, we have seen a much busier period of recruitment in the first half of 2017 than in any year previously since the economic crisis, so some level of seasonality is now to be expected,” Trayc Keevans, director of Inward Investment at Morgan McKinley, said.

On an industry by industry breakdown, the information and communications technology sector continued to perform well, with demand now crossing all industry sectors for experienced and newly-qualifying staff in this area.
In particular, the foreign-direct investment sector is recruiting both for organic growth and the completion of staffing for European hubs according to the data.

Interestingly in the Human Resources sector recruitment professionals continue to be in high demand as organisations build out their in house recruitment teams. There are multiple opportunities across all industry sectors for HR professionals.

There was a 5pc increase year-on-year in July in the number of professionals seeking jobs in Ireland which is seen as an indicator of continuing employee confidence, mobility and a willingness to consider opportunities.
